THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE IS COMING

LifeLink Devotions for Thursday, October 15, 2026

When I read the Scripture passage we will study today several questions came to my mind.

Why is there so much evil going unchecked in the world today?

Why does injustice seem to overwhelm justice?

When will people who have afflicted me get what is coming to them?

These questions may also bother you at times. We wonder if God is really a righteous judge at all. The apostle Paul knew that the people in Thessalonica were also puzzled by these things. So in the second letter that he wrote to them he tried to assure them that there is a day coming when God’s justice will be righteously imposed.

“This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.”

On that day when the Lord returns from glory to be glorified in his Saints on this earth he will put everything right. He will repay the people who sinfully afflicted you with affliction of their own. And if we read the whole context starting at the beginning of the chapter we find that the people who are currently living under such affliction without asking questions about God’s justice are proof of God’s righteous judgment. Nobody patiently endures injustice unless they believe in a higher justice than their own. And the people in the church at Thessalonica were living proof, and Paul commended them.

How about you? Do you have such confidence in God and His promises of righteous judgment? Or do you need to see it happen now? Paul knew that we all struggle with this, so he concluded by writing this.

“To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Jesus Christ is coming as the perfect judge and will bring righteousness with Him. He will make everything right. Until that day, be worthy of his calling on your life by being resolved to do every good work of faith by his power to the glory of Jesus Christ your Lord.
