LIFT UP GOD

LifeLink Devotions for Thursday, February 26, 2026

We had several of them and we still do. There used to be one in the bathroom for the grandkids to use, and there were two of them in the pantry so that the grandkids could help in the kitchen. There’s still one in the laundry room. There’s also one in the camper. And when I’m in the garage, upside down five-gallon pails serve the purpose. We have multiple footstools.

Some are placed specifically to assist little children in accomplishing tasks. They raise the kids up to higher levels of functionality. Some are available to adults for the same purpose, like reaching the top shelves of kitchen cupboards. Still others are used primarily for rest and relaxation, lifting tired feet off the floor. Some even assist in getting a person up into an extra tall bed.

One thing is true of all footstools – they were designed and created to assist others by lifting them up. They never complain about the weight they must carry. They never argue with the user about how they are being used. They are kicked from one location to another so another task can be accomplished. They have cake batter and cookie dough spilled on them by less than careful grandkids that are learning to bake with grandma. They have dribbles of another kind on them from little boys being potty trained. They have absorbed the smell of stinky feet placed on them after a long day of work. Dirty, battered, and sometimes with covers that are wearing thin, they just keep doing what they were designed to do – lifting up others.

As we come to the final chapter of the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament of the Bible we hear these words from God.

Isaiah 66:1 “This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?”

God is asking us to consider His eternal greatness. He is asking us to humble ourselves before Him and admit that our efforts at self-advancement and personal glory are worthless. We are nothing more than a footstool compared to who He is.

But at the end of verse two God says this. “But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.” The same God who doesn’t notice the efforts of man is prepared to invest in the life of anyone who becomes a footstool. You can become His resting place. You can serve Him by acknowledging Him and praising Him and honoring Him and telling others about Him. In essence, you are to lift Him up so He can reach places with the Gospel that haven’t yet been reached.

You see, God’s creation – every part of it – is designed to lift Him up.

So, how are you doing today at lifting up your Designer and Creator? Or would you rather not be the footstool of the LORD God Almighty?
